EDITING, LEADERSHIP
aND TEAM BUILDING

Being a two-year Editor-In-Chief of the Bowie dispatch has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It has taught me that good journalistic leadership is built on the willingness to have understanding of those you lead and the ability to use your authority and responsibility to help your team grow as journalists.

Closing thoughts

Being able to edit, lead, and mentor the staff has been an incredible honor, and it has taught me a lot about myself and where I see myself going in the future. I am proud of my contributions to the publication as a whole and I am enthusiastic about the way my leadership team and I are going to leave it. If there is one thing I can say I will be most proud of as I depart from The Dispatch, it’s being able to mentor, teach, and promote the growth of our staff members. I hope that the future leaders of our publication will look to me as an example of what quality leadership looks like.
